Alex Keith is an interdisciplinary scholar, educator, and public historian. Her research explores the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, diaspora and performance in the United States and the United Kingdom. Her current project focuses on the administrative and cultural histories of two of the first Black-women founded theater groups in London and Chicago. The project analyzes the cultural politics of the groups’ performances in 20th century US, UK and West Africa as well as the administrative and intellectual labor of the groups’ founders. Alex earned a BA in history and African and African American studies from Dartmouth College, where she was a Mellon Mays Scholar. She also holds a PhD in history from Northwestern University.
